Downey Duck Locust Lake

Locust Lake State Park is located in Ryan Township, Schuylkill County, approximately 7 miles north of Pottsville, 3 miles south of Mahanoy City, and 6 miles west of Tuscarora State Park.

Situated at the western end of Locust Valley near the headwaters of Locust Creek, the park encompasses 1,144 acres, including a 52-acre lake. With the exception of approximately 60 acres located in the immediate area of the dam, the entire park area is forested. The land was purchased with "Project 70" funds and developed under the "Project 500"program. The park was opened to the public in 1972, with the formal dedication being conducted on July 10, 1972.

What To See

Locust Lake receives several stockings of brown and brook trout annually. Pickerel, bass, both largemouth and smallmouth, and panfish are also found in sufficient numbers.

The average depth of the lake is about 20 feet, maximum depth is 36 feet at the dam.

How to Get There

The park is about 2 miles southwest of the PA Route 54 interchange of Interstate Route 81; SR 1006 from Saint Clair to Mahanoy City.

Rates

There is no "entry fee" to dive the lake.
