What To See

Blue Hole Quarry is a privately owned rock quarry. It is 35 feet at its deepest part. The owner, the Burkettes' permit scuba classes to diver there. Teservations must be made in advance. There is no public swimming allowed. The quarry is approximately 1,051 fee long, the south end is approximately 220 feet wide, and the north end is approximately 130 feet wide. The east wall is OFF LIMITS to divers. the wall above the quarry has loose rocks. they can often be heard falling into the quarry.

The quarry is 27 feet deep. Water temperature is currently 50 degrees with a visibility of approx 10-20 feet. Average water temp in summer is mid 60's with visibility of 5-10 feet.

From Pittsburgh

1. Take Route 22 east past Ebensburg onto the expressway
2. From the expressway take the sign that says 22 East or 746 South.
3. This will take you to Holidaysburg where you will pick up Rout 22 traveling east.
4. Travel 8 miles to the turn to Williamsburg.
5. Make a right turn onto Rout 866.
6. Follow this road.
7. It will turn to the left at a stone wall.
8. (The distance from Route 866 to the ston wall is 4 miles)
9. Continue traveling 2 more miles.
10. Make a right hand turn by a white church.
11. At 1.5 miles, you will see a V.F.W.
12. After the V.F.W. make a lefthand turn.
13. Cross a cement bridge.
14. A creek will be on your right
15. Blue Hole is 1.1 more miles on the left.
16. The traveling time from Pittsburgh to Blue is approximately 2 1/2 hours.
